Depression (Major Depression)

Clinical depression knows by many names: depression, "the blues," biological depression, major depression. However it all refers to the same thing: feeling gloomy and depressed for weeks or months. This feeling is most often come with by thoughts of hopelessness, a lack of energy and taking no happiness in things that gave you delight in the past. A person who's unhappy just can't get moving and feels totally uninterested to do just about anything. Even simple things ,like getting dressed or eating  become large hurdles in daily life.The expression depressed is a ordinary everyday word. People might say "I'm depressed" when in actuality they mean "I'm fed up, or unsuccessful in exam, or job", etc. These ups and downs of life are regular and usual. Most people get well quite speedily. With factual depression, you have a low mood and additional symptoms each day for at least two weeks. Symptoms can also turn into severe enough to hinder with normal everyday activities.

Causes of depression

In general, depression does not occur from a particular event, but from a grouping of current events and other longer-term or personal factors.

Life Events:
Study suggests that ongoing difficulties , long-term unemployment, living in an insulting or unfeeling relationship, long-term separation or being alone, prolonged stress at work , are more likely to cause depression than recent life stresses. However, current events (such as losing a job) or a combination of events can ‘start depression in people who are already at threat because of past bad experiences or personal factors.

Personal factors:
·         Family history – Depression can run in families and some people will be at a larger genetic risk. This doesn't mean that a person will automatically experience depression but life conditions and other personal aspects are still likely to have an important pressure.
·         Personality – a number of people may at more risk of depression for the reason that of their personality, particularly if worry a lot, have low self-esteem, are perfectionists are sensitive to personal disapproval.
·         Serious medical illness – Having a medical disease can generate depression.
·         Drug and alcohol use – Drug and alcohol use can both lead depressions. 

Signs and Symptoms
A person may be depressed if, for more than two weeks, he or she has suffer sadness, down or dejected most of the time or has lost attention or delight in usual activities, and has also experienced numerous of the signs and symptoms across at least three of the groups below.It’s significant to note that everybody experiences some of these symptoms from time to time and it may not essentially mean a person is depressed. Likewise, not every person who is experiencing depression will have all of these symptoms.

Behavior  
·         not going out any longer
·         not getting things done at office/college
·         withdrawing from close family and friends
·         relying on alcohol and tranquilizers
·         not doing usual enjoyable actions
·         unable to focus

Feelings
·         weighed down
·         blameworthy
·         ill-tempered
·         disturbed
·         lacking in self-belief
·         sad
·         unable to make up your mind
·         dissatisfied
·         fed-up
·         gloomy

Thoughts
·         'I’m a loser.'
·         'It’s my mistake.'
·         'Nothing excellent ever happens to me.'
·         'I’m valueless.'
·         'Life’s not attraction living.'
·         'People would be happier without me.'

Physical
·         exhausted all the time
·         headache
·         muscle pains
·         sleeping problems
·         loss or change of appetite
·         noteworthy weight loss or gain


Treatment


Psychotherapy is often the first type of treatment suggested for depression. The word psychotherapy actually engages a variety of treatment techniques. During psychotherapy, a person with depression talks to a mental health care expert who helps him recognize and work through the factors that may be causing their depression

    The god news is that there are good, natural thyerapies to hekp recaliibrate the brains' neurotransmitters and diminish the effects of depression.
